P-Town Proposal Would Limit Hotel Consolidations

Town Meeting voters in Provincetown will be asked to decide whether to limit further consolidation of hotels.

Article 24 on the warrant would amend bylaws and limit lodging licenses one person or entity could own to three.

Those with more at present would not be affected. The article was petitioned by two residents in response to out-of-town business interests that buy up local lodgings.

Currently, 40 percent of Provincetown's nearly 14 hundred hotel rooms are owned by three companies.

If approved, officials may need to consider a new method of license oversight.

The Town Meeting is set for April 1st.
