Man To Appear In Court After 8 Hour Standoff With Police

A Hyannis man faces arraignment today in Barnstable County District Court, after a standoff that lasted nearly seven hours.

Police were called to a home on St. Francis Circle at around 7:40 a.m.

Wednesday, on a report that Justin Moreira was holding a woman at knifepoint.

At least three other residents were inside the home at the time. Moreira fired several shots at police and a robotic dog.

Authorities eventually used pepper spray and a ballistic vehicle with an attached demolition to force Moreira to surrender.

Moreira, who is 30, faces attempted murder and firearms counts.
