Word overnight from the State Fire Marshal’s Office that the fireworks shooter who conducted the Fourth of July display in Edgartown has had his license suspended for five years. Marshal Peter Ostrosky says Anthony Marson of Maine agreed to the suspension.
Marson’s employer Central Maine Pyrotechnics is accepting a two-year suspension for the same offense.
Ostrosky says the suspension came after it was discovered that more than two dozen unexploded commercial fireworks shells had washed ashore on Chappaquiddick Island.
“Fireworks are inherently dangerous,” said State Fire Marshal Ostrosky. “Communities trust professional fireworks vendors to handle these devices with the utmost caution and professionalism. We’re extremely fortunate that no one was injured by the grave public safety hazard that unexploded shells posed on a public beach.”
The penalties come after a joint investigation with Edgartown Fire, Polce and Massachusetts State Police.
