West Tisbury Barn Fire Kills Many Animals

3/20/19

A barn at Flat Point Farm in West Tisbury was completely destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.

The Vineyard Gazette says the call came just after 5 A.M. and West Tisbury Fire Chief Manuel Estrella 3rd said the barn was totally gone when they arrived on scene.

Lost in the blaze were 22 lambs, 12 sheep, two beef cattle and 50 chickens in addition to 4OO to 500 bales of hay.

Several island fire departments responded to the scene. No fire personnel were injured during the fire.

The investigation into the cause of the blaze is continuing, but there is reportedly some speculation that a heat lamp could have been the source.
