Chatham: Request For Proposals For Study On A Shark Barrier For Oyster Pond

Chatham/Shark Barrier

2/27/19

The Town of Chatham has issued a request for proposals for a feasibility study addressing the viability of deploying a Shark Barrier to protect people using the beach at Oyster Pond, also known as Children’s Beach.

The tidal salt water pond is used by families during the season and is the location of the town’s swimming program.

Concern for swimmer safety has heightened due to the increased sightings of seals in the pond and the potential for associated shark activity.

The feasibility study will evaluate issues such as suitability of a shark barrier for the location, its design, availability, material, installation, inspection and maintenance requirements.
