Aquinnah Seeking Regulatory Help From Martha's Vineyard Commission

Aquinnah Asks For Regulatory Help Regarding Bingo Hall

2/7/19

The Aquinnah Board of Selectmen is asking the Martha's Vineyard Commission for oversight help with the Wampanoag tribe of Gay Head's plans for a new bingo hall.

The town fought against the hall, but the U.S. Supreme court declined to hear their argument last year, which left intact a federal appeals decision that said the tribe could run the gaming facility under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.

A letter sent last month from the town to the commission says it believes local and MCA permits are required for the bingo hall, and that the commission has jurisdiction over the lands.
