The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is on the receiving end of a $1 million grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation. The funds will go towards the development and use of a 3D acoustic telescope, a first-of-its-kind apparatus that will be used to listen to ocean activity and relaying the audio in real-time to scientists.
The Keck Foundation is a California-based organization that funds endeavors that are distinctive and novel in their approach.
A prototype is expected to be in place before the end of 2020.
