Gills Club to Hear From Shark Experts in Boston

Shark experts from around the world will be at the New England Aquarium in Boston on September 19 & 20.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in Chatham is teaming up with the Aquarium for a special symposium entitled “Shark Tales: Women Making Waves”.

Conservancy Executive Director and Co-Founder, Cynthia Wigren says it is a first-of-its-kind Gill's Club symposium.

The Gills Club is a STEM-based education initiative of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy based around getting girls involved in science. STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Wigren says the female scientists will give presentations both days and each night will feature a keynote presentation. On Tuesday, the 19th, Wendy Benchley will be the speaker and on Wednesday, the 20th, National Geographic Editor Susan Goldberg will be the featured speaker.

The lectures begin at 6 p.m. and all are welcome. Registration is recommended via RSVP at Atlantic White Shark dot org slash events.
